Kapow! Here’s a cool Back to School Art activity for kids 9 to 14. There are a range of superhero templates that kids can use to design their own superhero character. They can add color to develop their own super suit and then they can think and write about the super powers that their character will have. Check out the complete preview doc so that you can see exactly what you get. There are 3 male templates and 3 female templates. There is also a blank worksheet for kids to draw out their own superhero from scratch. You could encourage children to write about super powers linked to study skills, for instance, super memory or super writing ability …. Or you could use it as a lead into creative writing, with their superhero saving the day in an adventure. The templates are provided as worksheets and also as full page coloring sheets so that you have lots of creative freedom. Also check out the speech bubbles that kids can add their own text to, cut out and add to their super hero pictures. Also included are superhero emblem templates so that kids can design their own super badge! This resource could help make cross curricular links – study skills, art, creative writing. 18 pages in total.

Metacognition is basically thinking about thinking and it is widely considered that this mindset can positively impact on learning. We do it all the time in art education, but we sometimes don’t realise it. Hopefully this will help. It is a word document, so you can add your own comments and personalise it for you own needs.
